Bluefin Tuna Fishing Charters, Striped Bass, Cod, Haddock and Shark Fishing Season Review

Tuna, Striped Bass, Cod and Haddock Fishing Gloucester, MA

We enjoyed some great fishing on the Karen Lynn during the 2013 season. Starting off in April with excellent ground fishing for Cod and Haddock, many days with great action and bent rods allowing clients to take home plenty of fresh fish, some of the best New England has to offer. Some days you had to bounce around a bit but we always seemed to find some good action, on most Cod and Haddock trips we usually had a run in with a shark or two as there seemed to be a lot of them around. Mostly blue sharks but an occasional Porbeagle or Mako shark would show up which can be an excellent fight as well as good table fare, always exciting seeing a big shark swim up behind the boat.

Striped Bass Fishing Gloucester, MA

A great mix of Striped Bass started showing up in late May right behind the mackerel. Creating some fun and exciting action on most trips with great Striped Bass fishing continuing through June and July. With some Monster Striped Bass being landed, some times it takes patience waiting on that big one to come along but it is certainly worth it. The coast of Gloucester offers some great Striped Bass Fishing with the chance of catching a true trophy Striped Bass!

Bluefin Tuna Fishing Gloucester, MA

The Blue fin Tuna showed up off of Gloucester in June which gave us a chance at catching a few early season Tuna. As the Season went on the tuna started to settle into certain areas but not for long as the bait fish were always on the move. So staying on top of that and making good decisions on any given day would give us our shot at hooking up. With more and more baitfish showing up every year it’s always exciting to see what size and class of fish show up! Looking forward to the new season as new groups and different size class tuna should be showing up off of Gloucester.

Tuna, Striped Bass, Cod Fishing Karen Lynn Charters 2012 Season Review!

Gloucester, MA Fishing Charters Karen Lynn

The Karen Lynn enjoyed a great 2012 season! Beautiful North Shore weather was upon us most days creating great times spent on the water. Exceptional amounts of life wherever you went. Large numbers of baitfish, the most I have seen in quite some time. This set the stage for some great fishing action!

Cod and Haddock Gloucester, MA

Ground fishing began mid April with many charters enjoying non stop action reeling up nice New England Cod and Haddock. Most of cod and haddock fishing was done in less than a 150 feet of water which is always nice! These trips always make for great fun as multiple people are fishing at once and usually in competition with one another. Not to mention cod and haddock are some of the best eating fish the ocean has to offer!

Striped Bass Gloucester, MA

Striped Bass fishing off of Gloucester, MA was very productive as well, producing many trophy sized Striped Bass. Striped Bass season starts in June. As the bait starts to show up the Stripers aren’t far behind them. There is nothing like seeing a monster bass come up and crash on your bait! It is always a fun time out there going after our most prized game fish the Striped Bass.

Bluefin Tuna Gloucester, MA

The Blue fin Tuna season starts in June as well, what a exciting season it was! Tons of life bait, birds, whales, and of course tuna. A great show of tuna this year with many different size classes of fish showing up right outside of Gloucester, MA. We were very excited to see a good amount of the smaller class fish move in. The school Blue fin Tuna always creates a great opportunity for a exciting day on the water.

Blue Fin Tuna are a very tough fighting and beautiful fish to say the least! The Karen Lynn landed tuna this year ranging from the smallest being 39 inches and the largest taping out at 116 inches. It’s always a exciting trip filled with the anticipation of catching the toughest fighting fish in the ocean. Going home with some of the finest sushi in the world is just a bonus! Reeling in one of these beautiful creatures in is truly a memory that one will not soon forget.

We are looking forward to next season with high hopes of more excellent fishing. Thank you to all our returning and new clients who joined us this year aboard the Karen Lynn Gloucester, MA fishing charters.

Karen Lynn Charters Great Striped Bass Fishing !

Great Striped Bass fishing yesturday as the ocean is starting to come to life in all aspects ! This is one of my favorite times of the year seeing the bait fish arrive with the predators right on thier tail. Plenty of Mackerel out there to be had and yes the Stripers have certaintly found them. Always exciting seeing the Mackerel chased to the surface followed by a big explosion gets the blood pumping for sure. Nice mix of Bass moving in right behind the Mackerel with sizes ranging from 28″ with our largest being about 36″. Of course you get the courageous schoolies who always amaze me on the size of the Mackerel they are willing to attack. Back at our slip last night the switch was flipped as the bass were going crazy splashes all over the place as well as right next to the boat as they were chasing the small bait fish that collected to our underwater light. Action is certaintly heating up gotta love it. Good luck to all !

5/7/2010 Karen Lynn “Here We Go”

The Karen Lynn is off and running as we had our first charter on Friday. After a long winter and much boat preparation it sure feels nice to get back out on the water. Along with routine boat maintenance on the Karen Lynn we re painted and added new non skid to the deck as well as new L.E.D deck lights and sweet new Bose speakers for the cock pit. Very excited to get the 2010 season going!
On Friday we headed out to the bank for some ground fishing with our group from Connecticut. As the morning started off slow with a slow pick on cod we decided to run further down the bank coming across groups of feeding hump backs. In with the whales were schools of large Pollack feeding on sand eels and mackerel as the mackerel were jumping on the cod teasers as we came across small bunches of mackerel through out the day. The Pollack a.k.a Boston bluefish were very aggressive to say the least hitting jigs and teasers 20′ under the boat. As far as ground fishing goes switching up to lighter gear and butterfly jigs can be quite a blast with these large drag pulling Pollack great table fare as well.
We ended up the day finding a few more nice bunches of cod with a few haddock. Great day overall as the bank is showing great signs of life catching cod, haddock, Pollack, and mackerel all while being surrounded by bubble feeding humpbacks. Truly an amazing event in nature as sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy it.
Ran into much life inshore on the steam home as there were feeding minkie whales only a few miles off of the breakwater. Marked lot’s of bait up off the bottom assuming small herring, along with coming across small batches of mackerel which should become more plentiful very soon. Action will continue to heat up as the predators are not very far behind!

Feel free to give me a call anytime regarding your custom charter aboard the Karen Lynn. Thanks
Good Luck to all!

Cod and Haddock Fishing Charters Gloucester, MA

A great time had by all aboard the Karen Lynn this past Friday and weekend. The Bank is full of life already many whales, birds, and a decent amount of bait. We fished the broken grounds just before the bank. Lots of action always a bent rod lots of shorts to deal with but the keepers do come. As well as a pretty good haddock bite in the deeper water. The fish were hitting jigs at times as well as the bait. If you found the whales feeding the cod were under them eating the scraps. Many cod coming up with small sand eels hanging out of there mouths. The fish and eels are still scattered, I hope soon enough the eels will congregate up to the shoal water and the cod will be right behind them. Sure feels great to be back on the water a great start to the season. High hopes for the 2009 season. The Karen Lynn has many great dates still available, contact First Light Anglers or visit our contact us page to book your trip now. Thanks Capt Collin
